Michael's Workspace for CEP 818

Many of my ESL students have come here from thousands and thousands miles away. They've left the comfort of their homes, the company of their friends and families, and the luxury of not having to deal with cultural and language barriers on a daily basis. In taking on the challenge of coming to the United States to learn English, many of my students have met new friends, have explored a different country, and have soaked up the California sun knowing that they have stepped out of their comfort zones to experience something different. Learning English is not something you can do entirely sitting at a desk with a book opened. It is something you must experience, because learning a language is not only about vocabulary and grammar. It's about being able to communicate with others of different cultures and backgrounds. Below is a picture mosaic created using the software program MacOSaiX. I chose to use this software and a picture of my students on a nearby pier to illustrate the body thinking the occurs while these students learn. If you look closely, the smaller photos that make up the larger photo are of beaches, friends, and smiles - all of which my students experience during their studies.

I'm currently working towards a MA is educational technology and leadership. The knowledge gained from this course, CEP 818, will hopefully enable me to make better judgments and decisions about how technology can better enhance the learning experience for the students and teachers I work with.
